Bartosz Bialkowski is Ipswich hero with penalty save at Wolves

Ipswich goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski earned his side a Sky Bet Championship point with an impressive display in the 0-0 draw against Wolves at Molineux.

Bialkowski denied Jon Dadi Bodvarsson from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute and then produced a stunning second-half stop to deny Helder Costa.

Wolves had been seeking back-to-back wins at Molineux after last weekend's 2-0 victory against Reading, but they struggled to hit the heights they reached in that game.

Ipswich had been beaten 2-0 at Brentford in their previous match but former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy had his side well drilled at his old club and they produced a solid defensive display to frustrate Walter Zenga's side - backed up by the good form of Bialkowski.

After a start to the game when chances were rare, Wolves squandered a golden chance to take the lead from the spot.

Iceland international striker Bodvarsson raced onto an inch-perfect pass from Joao Teixeira and charged into the Ipswich penalty area.

Ipswich central defender Adam Webster lunged in to stop Bodvarsson in his tracks and in the process gave referee Peter Bankes no option but to award a penalty.

Bodvarsson, who had scored on his Wolves debut in the 2-2 draw at Rotherham on the opening day of the season following his move from Kaiserslautern, picked himself up to take the spot-kick himself but his low right-footed drive lacked real power.

Bialkowski dived low to his right and got a hand on the ball to stop it sneaking inside his near post.

The spot-kick miss added some intensity to the game and Ipswich thought that they had taken the lead themselves five minutes later, only for Republic of Ireland international striker Daryl Murphy to have his close-range header ruled out, with Freddie Sears in an offside position.

Former Wolves central defender Christophe Berra was also out of luck with a header in first-half stoppage time when he flashed an effort agonisingly wide from 12 yards following a right-wing free-kick from Teddy Bishop.

After that let-off, Wolves did start the second period with more urgency and threatened in the 47th minute after another error by Webster.

This time he lost the ball to Teixeira 25 yards from goal.

But Teixeira was unable to keep his shot on target and Bialkowski was able to watch it drift wide.

While Bialkowski was not troubled then, he certainly was after 73 minutes when he again rescued Ipswich.

Ipswich did not fully clear a free-kick and when the ball dropped invitingly to substitute Helder Costa he let fly with a volley from 20 yards that Bialkowski spectacularly tipped to safety.
