West Ham Accept Williams Bid

The East Anglian Daily Times reports that the deal will be for a two and a half year contract and for a fee similar to the £350,000 that West Ham paid Yeovil to secure Williams a year ago.

Blues Chairman David Sheepshanks has confirmed the bid: “All being well we plan to secure the strikers and the defender that Joe Royle wants in the transfer window and we have also had an offer accepted by West Ham for Gavin Williams. We are in discussion over personal terms," he said.

Sheepshanks has urged fans to back Royle and underlined the reasons for the Club's recent loss of form, which he and the board are determined to overturn:

“New recruits are now essential given the appalling injuries we have sustained. At the beginning of the season we needed goal scorers and a left back and we signed them. We have been most unfortunate to lose Sam Parkin and Jay McEveley to long term injuries and now Forster again for a second time, not to mention the fact that Proudlock and our young Academy strikers Clarke and Knights are all injured as well.

“While we cannot guarantee results, we can influence performance and with new arrivals I would be confident of an upturn. The performances against Palace and Hull would have yielded different results had we not been so ineffective in front of goal,” he said.

Gavin Williams has been an ever-present on Joe Royle's team sheet since his arrival on a two month loan spell and he has made no secret of the fact that regular first-team football at Town would lead him to consider a permanent switch from Town's conquerors in the Play-offs.
