19 year old O'Connor impressed for Town during the recent friendly game against League of Ireland side Waterford United, and the display has impressed Town boss Roy Keane enough to offer the youngster a one year deal.

Confirming the news to the EADT, Keane said: "We have offered Shane a one-year deal and I expect he will sign it. He still has a lot to do and will be with the development squad over the next couple of months

"Good players can play in any position. He played left back on Friday but sees himself as an attacker. He brings a lot of enthusiasm and not a lot of people have enough enthusiasm."

O'Connor will become the fourth signing of the summer, with Keane having already recruited Lee Martin from Manchester United, Troy Brown from Fulham and Damien Delaney from former boss Jim Magilton's QPR.
