The 31-year-old defender has signed a one months loan deal with Town but having been told by Charlton boss Alan Curbishley that he has no future at The Valley the South African centre-back has admiited that he is keen on securing a permanent deal at Portman Road.

"I'm looking forward to playing some first team football and hopefully helping Ipswich enjoy a good start to the season," he told the clubs official website.

"I spoke to Matty Holland and Hermann at Charlton and they told me what a good club Ipswich is and what a good manager Joe Royle is to work for, so it was an easy decision for me to come here.

"I'm still contracted to Charlton for another year, but Alan Curbishley has told me that if I can find a new club then he would be willing to let me go, and a move to Ipswich would certainly appeal.

"When you look around the facilities and the set-up here, it's a club that deserves to be in the Premiership and I'm here to play my part in the club getting back to that level."
