New striker Nicky Forster's 64th minute goal separated the two sides as a new season got underway at Portman Road but Town had goalkeeper Lewis Price to thank for making sure they gained all three points.

Price made a wonder-save to deny Cardiff substitute Alan Lee.

"Until Lewis (Price) brought off that save I didn't think we were under very much danger," Royle said after the game.

"All great saves need an element of luck, but this was certainly a magnificent reflex effort."

"It was an untypical Ipswich performance, not free-flowing but quite functional."
