Riordan banged in 23 goals for Hibernian this season as they reached third in the Scottish Premier League under the guidance of former blue Tony Mowbray, but the star striker has failed to agree a new deal at the club and is likely to leave in the summer.

Speaking of the chances of Riordan leaving Hibs, Mowbray said: “At the moment there is nothing concrete or definite. We are not sticking any figures or prices on Derek.

"I've told him we'd love the situation to be resolved with him staying here, where we believe he can continue his football education. He still has a lot of developing to do, especially if he wants to play on the bigger stage down south.”

Should Town boss Joe Royle want to bring Riordan to Portman Road, it's likely that the club will have to pay a fee of around £750,000 which could be financed by the sale of Darren Bent who yesterday handed in a transfer request.
