Speaking to the Official Club Website, Town Boss Joe Royle confirmed that he is pleased with the former Ajax stars progress: "Martijn was getting back to a level but still experiencing pain when striking the ball at certain angles. We sent him to see a specialist and he was put on a course of strengthening exercises. If that failed, it looked like he would have to have surgery."

Also speaking of the injury, Town physio Dave Williams said: "Martijn is well on the way back now and it looks like surgery won't be necessary. He had had to build up the tissue around the groin area and is progressing well."
