Counago was left out of Town's starting lineup on Saturday against Gillingham, with Shefki Kuqi prefered to the Spaniard, however despite only being named on the bench, Counago has again expressed his desire to stay.

Speaking to the Ipswich Evening Star, Counago said: "I have read all the speculation about me leaving Ipswich and about me being the biggest wage-earner.

"I take no notice, and as a footballer at this level you expect this. I like it at Portman Road and want to score goals and enjoy my football.

"To earn a new contract for the one that runs out next June I need to help fire Ipswich into the Premiership. Another season at this level and it will mean I will probably have to leave."
