Counago scored his second of the season for the club against West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday after spending the first part of the season on the bench, but now Counago says he's out to win a new deal with the club and has expressed his joy at living in Suffolk.

However Counago admits it wasn't always easy for him in England, and he felt it hard to adapt to the language when he first joined the club: "I took English lessons but found it very hard." said the Former Spanish Under 21 international.

"Playing football in the Premiership was much easier although I took time to make an impact on the pitch for Ipswich.

"Learning to speak the language was a top priority and it shows respect if you are working in a foreign country. Fitness coach Simon Thadani speaks Spanish and he was my go-between for a long while until I was able to learn enough to get by on my own.

Many rumours in the summer suggested Counago was homesick and wanted to return to Spain to be with his girlfriend. However Counago dismisses this and reveals that Lara now lives in Ipswich full time with him

Counago said: "I am settled in Ipswich and enjoy living here. My girlfriend Lara is with me full time and we take in the Suffolk countryside whenever possible.

"She is also sporty and spends time in the gym and playing Tennis. She is studying and also following my example by learning English. It's funny because the shoe is on the other foot now and I am able to teach her some English words and phrases."

Going on to the playing side of things, Counago was delighted to open his account for the season against Millwall just over a week ago: "Scoring against Millwall was a big boost for me. I needed that goal to give my confidence a lift. It was a great feeling but the main thing was that the team won.

Speaking of the transfer side of things, Pablo re-iterated that he wants to win a new contract at Portman Road: "It has been difficult, but I want to let bygones be bygones. I don't want to linger in the past as that will do me no good. I want to look ahead to better times and help Ipswich reach the Premiership.

"I will train as hard as I can and hopefully get a chance to show what I can do on the pitch. When that chances comes I plan to make the most of it. It's not nice to know you are not wanted. I felt I was being pushed out and could not understand why. The impression I got was that the club was trying to sell me.

Pablo also had much praise for the Ipswich fans, and said that they have given him great comfort through the last few difficult months: "Knowing that the fans want me to s tay has been a tremendous comfort and it is a honour to hear supporters sing my name. It makes me feel great."
