Pablo Desperate for Town Action

Counago has banged 31 goals in for Town in just 60 starts for the club over the past two seasons, and despite his excellent goal scoring record, has found himself down the pecking order of strikers at Portman Road and was yesterday handed a free transfer.

Pablo believes that the key to rediscover his goalscoring form is actually being given a chance: “The first thing to be doing is to be in the side. If you are not playing then it is difficult to score goals.

“In pre-season I was playing a little and still managed to score four goals. The more minutes I'm playing the more chance I have of scoring. I feel when I have been on then I have done well.”

The Spaniard is the highest wage earner at Portman Road and is most likely to be on a wage in the region of 16k per week at the club, but has admitted that although if offer that came in for him was right he may leave the club, ideally he would fire Town to the Premiership and agree a new deal.

“I'm not worried about someone coming in for me before the end of August. I just want to play for Ipswich and my aim is to have a good year and for us to get back into the Premiership then we can talk about a new deal." Pablo confessed.

“If the club want me to go on a free that is their problem. I just carry on training hard and playing. If someone comes in and it is a club which suits me then perhaps I will go but at the moment I'm happy here and want to play for Ipswich."

Counago also had a special word for Town's supporters, admitting that he loves to hear them chant his name, and wants to repay them for their support: “I love to hear the supporters sing 'Ole Pablo' it shows they want me here and I want to play well and be on the pitch and score goals for them.

“You want to do well for the team, for the fans and for the manager but now I need to be doing it for myself so that I'm in the side. I need to be playing and doing my best so that I can enjoy my football again."

The Former Celta striker admits being left out of Town's side frustrates him, but he will be trying his very best in order to change that: “If you are not playing then you get angry with yourself and frustrated. That is normal for all the players. All I can do is try my best and hope to be in the side on a Saturday.”

Counago is likely to be named as a substitute this afternoon when Town take on Cardiff City at Portman Road.
