It was hoped that McGreal would take part in tonights reserve game against Portsmouth at Portman Road kicking off at 7pm so the former Tranmere man could continue his build up to returning to full first team action for Joe Royle's side.

However due to picking up the injury in training, reserve team boss Steve McCall admits that the gash may rule the man who has not played for Town's first team since February out of action tonight: "John picked up a gash on his foot during training and we will see how he is today," he told the Official Club Website.

"He has played the last few games for us after a long time out with his back and knee injuries and it's all about moving his fitness on to the next level now and reaching a point where he is confident he can get through 90 minutes in the first-team."
