Speaking to the Official Club Website, the former Politican said the following of his decision: "Although I have left the board, I will remain an Ipswich Town supporter just as I have been for 44 years. I have enjoyed my time immensely but the time has come for me to leave the board and make way for new blood."

Ryder was appointed onto the board by Chairman David Sheepshanks four years ago, and the blues Chairman thanked the former Tory man: "On behalf of the board of directors I'd like to put on record our sincere thanks to Richard for his many valuable contributions over the past four years while he has been a director of Ipswich Town Football Club."
