Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, former Manchester City boss Royle said: “I'm not devastated at getting knocked out of the Carling Cup but what it does is it closes a funding avenue for us to bring in loan players and our loan budget at the moment is very small.”

Two players who will certainly not be coming to Portman Road on loan are Crystal Palace forward Dougie Freedman and West Bromwich Albion defender Darren Moore after it was decide that they would remain at their respective clubs to fight for a place rather than going out on loan.
