Hutchings was sacked by the Saddlers earlier this month but has linked up again with new Town boss Paul Jewell after earlier spells under him at Bradford, Wigan and Derby.
He joins Sean McCarthy - who was appointed as a coach last week - in Jewell's new-look backroom staff.
