Hreidarsson was sent off in the 49th minute after referee Clive Wilkes alleged that he had intentionally caught Bantams player Simon Francis in the face.

However, the Icelandic defender claimed that any contact was unintentional: "It was purely accidental but I have caught him. I played the ball off and was trying to get my body around him to go past and caught him with the flat of my hand.

"I'm big enough to admit it, if I had done it deliberately, but I have not.

"I will definitely be appealing.

"Hopefully when he (the referee) sees it again he will relaise that and change his mind."
