Canadian International De Vos, a summer signing from Wigan Athletic is also not certain to be fit for Saturday's game against Gillingham however, but is said to be in with much more of a chance of winning his fitness battle in time to face the Gills than Jim.

Speaking to the Official Club Website, Town boss Joe Royle confirmed: "Jim is very doubtful at this stage but we will see how he is over the next 24 hours before making a decision.

"If he doesn't make it, Jason De Vos will skipper the side providing he recovers from his own injury. He will train on Friday and we will see how he goes. If he's out and Jim's out then I will have to sit down and think about who's going to skipper the team."

Should both players indeed miss out on Saturday, it's likely that Fabian Wilnis will be one of the front runners for the job having previously skippered Town when Magilton was off the field last season.
