Town were ahead as soon as the fourth mintue, with First-teamer Westlake volleying home. Charlton then levelled on 24, through experienced Jay Boothroyd.

Ipswich took control of the game straight after the break, with Bowditch restoring their advantage after 47 and last seasons youth cup captain, Liam Craig, extended their lead on 56.

Kevin Lisibie, formely on loan to Norwich, pulled one back for the Addick's, before youngster Billy Clarke continued his impressive scoring record with Town's fourth, from 20 yards out.

There was concern for Town however, as Westlake limped off with an ankle problem after 25 minutes. He was replaced with Danny Haynes. Westlake has only just returned from ankle ligament damage and the Blues will be praying it isn't a reoccurrence.
