Charlton Bid for Darren?

Bent, who scored 20 goals last season for the blues, handed in a transfer request through his agent to Town boss Joe Royle earlier in the week, feeling it was time to move on to a club in the Premiership.

Charlton previously made a £3M offer to Town for the services of the Cambridge born striker in the Summer, which was turned down by the club who were keen to keep hold of him for the 2004/5 promotion push.

However the fact that Town have missed out on promotion this season, combined with the fact that Bent has just one year on his contract, has meant that the striker is almost certain to leave the club in the Summer for pastures new.

In addition to the interest from Charlton, fellow Premiership clubs Sunderland, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Fulham and Everton are all said to be keeping an eye on the situation.
