The win should of been more comfortable after the Leeds youth side, coached by former Town left-back, Neil thompson, finished with eight men, after having two sent-off and incurring an injury after using all their allowed substitutions.

Billy Clarke, who made his senior debut on Wednesday, converted from the spot, just after the interval to send the Blues through. The penalty came after Danny Haynes, who made his senior debut at Ellland road, was brought down.

Owen Garvan stepped up his return from injury in the match, with 50 minutes on the pitch, and is expected to be included in royle's senior squad for the visit of Wolves on Saturday.

The team that progressed against Leeds was: Pétursson, Moore, Ainsley, Garvan (Fenn 50), Casement, Short, Haynes, Trotter, Clarke, Knights, Upson. Unused Subs: Leabon, Plummer, Haverson, Sheringham.
