West Ham Vs Ipswich - The Opposition View

Last updated : 24 December 2003 By Site Editor
Going into the Boxing Day clash Ipswich Town are placed in fifth in the league table just one point and one position ahead of West Ham United, and currentley lay 6 points behind second spot and 7 points behind leaders Norwich

With Town keen to bounce back from last weekends East Anglian Derby defeat at Portman Road, ITFM asked West Ham fans Wayne and Daniel, regular visitors to our sister site westhammersfc.com a few questions on this weekends game and the season in general:

How do you feel West Ham's season is going?
About as well as I expected given the fact that the heart has been ripped out of the team. (Daniel)

Not great. Too many draws but I and the majority feel that Pardew has a decimated squad when he took over and that he will get it right. (Wayne)

How do you feel Ipswich are doing this season?
Fairly up and down – a good run followed by an unexpected defeat . Mind you, that seems to be a feature of this league with no one team being truly outstanding. (Daniel)

Hot and cold. Can clearly get a play off spot with a decent run or two but dont have them down as top two. (Wayne)

Who do you think are your most on form and dangerous players at the moment?
Harewood is dangerous, as is Defoe for more than one reason!!! Repka is ace also, although he’ll probably pick up the rudimentary booking. (Daniel)

The once erratic Tomas Repka. Player of the season so far by a mile. Defoe could destroy anyone on his day but his mind is elsewhere and 3 sendings off have annoyed most off big time. I would still like to keep him but the money and contract time left means he WILL leave next month. (Wayne)

Are there any youngsters or unsung talents in the squad we may not have heard of?
Young 16-year old lad called Cohen, who plays for the U17s, I’ve forgotten his first name. He might be on the bench. And mark Naylor, a class centre back who plays for the U19s. (Daniel)

Not as many as a few years ago. Anton Ferdinand (brother of Rio) will clearly be a decent player one day but will not be a Rio. (Wayne)

How do you think both clubs will fair this season?
Us, play offs at best, you, well I couldn’t call that. Probably play offs as well. (Daniel)

What sort of line-up can we expect from you?
A mediocre one, especially in midfield. James, Pearce, Repka, Quinn (worst luck!), Etherington, Connolly, Mullins (agggh!!), Horlock, Carrick (maybe?), Harewood, Defoe. (Daniel)

James, Stockdale, Pearce, Repka, Horlock, Mullins, Carrick, Hutchison, Connelly
Defoe, Harewood (Wayne)

Predicted Score?
1-1, Why not, we are the draw specialists. (Daniel)

2-1 to us (please) (Wayne)

Thanks to Daniel and Wayne for the answers.
