Sir Bobby Robson's Statue, Portman Road

Robson The Manger :
Bobby Robson managed Ipswich Town before he became the Second Ipswich Town Manager to become Manager of England, the other being Sir Alf Ramsey. Robson spent 13 years at Portman Road, leading the Club to FA Cup and UEFA Cup glory.

After taking England to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 1990 he became manager of PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

Bobby then had successful spells at clubs around Europe, such as Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona before he returned to the English Premier League as manager of Newcastle United, succeeding Rudd Gullit, he then took his home town club to a Champions' League place in the 2001/2002 Season.

Robson The Sir :
On the 16th June 2002, it was announced that Bobby Robson was to receive a knighthood for his services to football in the Queen's Birthday honours list.

Robson has been rewarded for his lifetime's achievements in football and England manager Sven Goran Eriksson was just one of many to pay tribute to the Newcastle United Boss : If there is one person in the game who deserves this honour, it is Bobby. Congratulations to him," he said

Sir Bobby's Statue :
The statue of former Ipswich boss Sir Bobby Robson (pictured above) was unveiled at an opening ceremony on the 16th July 2002, The Newcastle manager was accompanied by Ipswich Town Chairman David Sheepshanks at an event at Portman Road that clearly meant a lot to the Ipswich Legend.

The statue was sculpted by Sean Hedges-Quinn who also took charge of creating the Sir Alf Ramsey statue that now looks over the stadium on the corner of Sir Alf Ramsey Way and Portman Road.

Robson sadly passed away at the age of 76 on 31 July 2009
