Ipswich Town made the perfect start to their bid to bounce straight back into the Premiership as goals from teenager Darren Ambrose and Marcus Bent earned them a comfortable win at Walsall.

Ipswich dominated affairs and would have secured victory by a far bigger margin but for the heroics of Walsall goalkeeper James Walker who pulled off a number of stunning saves.

Walker fought a virtual one man rearguard battle against a rampaging Ipswich side.

Pablo Counago and Matt Holland were twice frustrated by Walker inside the first 20 minutes.

Holland was then denied for a second time by Walker after 32 minutes before the 'keeper produced a world class save to push a 35-yard drive from Darren Bent over the bar two minutes later.

Ipswich made the deserved breakthrough eight minutes before half-time.

Once again the impressive Holland was to the fore, setting up Bent whose low angled drive was again expertly dealt with by Walker.

But Walker was unable to hold on to the ball allowing Ambrose to race in from the left flank to fire home from just six yards.

The visitors added a more realistic look to the scoreline after 62 minutes.

Jamie Clapham found himself unmarked on the left wing and floated over a pinpoint cross that Darren Bent nodded back towards to his namesake, Marcus.

Marcus Bent had his back to goal, but he managed to acrobatically volley the ball past Walker.
