A lively start saw chances at both ends go close with Ed de Goey being called into action by Darren Bent and Gifton Noel-Williams' flicked header being denied by the bar.

The deluge of goals didn't begin until the 41st minute, but Ipswich struck the first blow when a simple left-sided cross from Ian Westlake was converted by an unmarked Jason De Vos in the centre.

The Potters clawed one back before the break with a stroke of luck after Clive Clarke's corner from the right was swung to the back post for Wayne Thomas to scramble over the line.

After more near misses, Ipswich took the lead in style on 63 minutes when Tommy Miller fed Bent a through ball, but unselfishly the English under-21 international supplied Westlake with a tap-in from only six yards out.

Stoke drew level against 12 minutes later with goalscorer Thomas popping up at the back post again following a right-sided Steve Guppy corner to cleanly head home.

The comeback was complete five minutes before time when after a Gerry Taggart long free-kick was headed into the path of Ade Akinbiyi by Drissa Diallo, the striker only had to tap home past the stranded Kelvin Davis.
