United had swept to a 3-0 lead before Joe Royle's battlers struck in an astonishing second-half spell grabbing three in four minutes.

United took the lead in the 19th minute, former Scottish international Stuart McCall picked out Brown who cut in from the right, skipped past a Matt Holland challenge and hit a low curling shot from 20 yards, which beat the diving Andy Marshall and spun into the far corner.

Pablo Counago fired over the United bar from the edge of the area before throwing away a simple chance in the 26th minute. Jermaine Wright threaded the ball to the Ipswich forward, who casually tried to roll the ball beyond keeper Wilko de Vogt but pulled it the wrong side of the post.

United snatched their second in the 30th minute, Wayne Quinn's corner from the right was headed against the bar by loan striker Tommy Mooney and Jagielka slammed in the rebound from 12 yards out.

Ipswich should have pulled a goal back eight minutes before the interval, Thomas Gaardsoe stretching to meet Jim Magilton's corner and pulling it wide of the far post from six yards.

Mooney headed a McCall cross a foot wide of the target before Ipswich missed another sitter substitute Darren Bent crossing from the right to Darren Ambrose, who scooped the ball high over the target from 16 yards.

Brown grabbed his second in the 64th minute, with a spectacular volley from 25 yards after Wayne Quinn's corner had been headed out to the United midfielder.

Gaardsoe pulled one back in the 65th minute and Ipswich made it 3-2 in the 68th minute after Jagielka brought down Tommy Miller in the area, with Miller scoring from the spot.

Darren Bent equalised in the 69th minute cutting in from the right to beat the keeper with an angled drive after rounding Quinn.

However, Peschisolido grabbed the winner in the 89th minute after Ipswich failed to clear Quinn's long throw.
