The Finnish international, who makes a habit of scoring against the Yorkshire side, pounced twice in five minutes either side of half time.

His bolt from the blue three minutes before the break was followed by second two minutes into the second half when he punished a Rotherham mistake to put the result beyond the home side.

It gave Ipswich their third win but left Ronnie Moore's Rotherham with only three points and without a victory in the league.

In the third minute Michael Proctor's deft click triggered Paul Shaw whose stinging drive was deflected wide.

A Shaw flick returned the favour for Proctor but his effort was held by Ipswich keeper Kelvin Davis.

And only a timely intervention from Richard Naylor halted Shaw after Proctor's neat feed.

Ipswich broke the deadlock when former Sheffield Wednesday frontman Kuqi grabbed his third of the season when he dipped a vicious 30 yarder over Mike Pollitt.

Moments earlier Kuqi had produced Ipswich's first effort on target when he cut in from the right and drilled a low shot that Mike Pollitt smothered.

Seconds into the second half Shaw hit a curling 20 yarder after Proctor's feed but then Kuqi struck again.

Scott Minto fluffed a clearance and Darren Bent slipped the ball into the area but when Pollitt hesitated as Phil Gilchrist shepherded the ball Kuqi darted in a slotted his second in from 10 yards.

Kuqi should have completed a hat trick in the 72nd minute but when Drissa Diallo crossed superbly Kuqi missed his header from close range.

Ipswich, with verteran midfielder Jim Magilton in supreme form, soaked up Rotherham's pressure as the home side looked for a way back.

And Rotherham's frsutrated fans booed the side off after their side's dismal start to the season again sees them poised for their annual battle against relegation.
