Millwall 0-0 Town

Santos was dismissed on 50 minutes for a second booking after Williamson deemed he had body-checked flying winger Kevin Braniff, but the yellow card looked harsh. Santos did not help himself though, by holding his head in his hands just after he comitted the offence, as if he was expecting the red card, whereas he may have been better to have walked away so he didn't look so guilty.

Meanwhile the visiting fans were even more incensed that Millwall keeper Tony Warner escaped a red card when he handled outside the box as he raced off his line to deny Pablo Counago and was only booked in what can only be described as a mystifying decision as the rules clearly state the punishment for delebrate handball outside the box is a straight red.

The sending-off and the sending off that never happened that should have, was the major talking point in a tempestuous game where clear-cut chances were at a premium and Berkshire based referee Iain Williamson handed out an amazing 8 yellow cards and one red card.

Ipswich striker Shefki Kuqi wasted the best opportunity in the first half as he somehow missed the target from just six yards after Warner had spilled a Fabian Wilnis cross which surely must be a contender for miss of the season.

Kuqi along with Ian Westlake were replaced at half time by Pablo Counago and Alan Mahon, in a bid from blues boss Joe Royle to attempt to win the game by putting a little more attacking approach on the field, however Royle's plans were shattered by the sending off of Santos.

Millwall unsurprisingly dominated after the red card and battered the visitors for the final half-hour, but they struggled to find a way past the resolute defence which had Chris Bart-Williams filling in the hole that was left by the dismissal of Georges Santos.

And right at the death, when sub Mark Quigley finally saw the goal gaping, Wilnis was on hand with a vital header off the line to extend Ipswich's unbeaten run to six games and condemn Millwall to their third successive 0-0 draw at home.

The next game for Town is the East Anglian Derby against Norwich at Portman Road on December 21st, which despite his sending off today, Santos will be eligiable for because supensions do not kick in until 14 days from the offence.
