Ipswich Town 3 Norwich City 1

Danny Haynes came off the bench and scored twice as Ipswich beat arch-rivals Norwich at home for the first time since 1998.

It looked as if that run would continue when Norwich debutant Luke Chadwick took advantage of a horrendous howler by Matt Richards to score on his debut on 26 minutes.

However, Sylvain Legwinski's fourth of the season levelled matters before the break and Haynes came on for the last 15 minutes to net twice to give Ipswich three richly-deserved points.

It was a quiet start to the match - perhaps not helped by the early start - but Ipswich almost went ahead on nine minutes when Gary Roberts raced past Adam Drury and his deflected effort beat Paul Gallacher only to be headed off the line by Jason Shackell.

Ipswich should have gone in front on 22 minutes when top-scorer Alan Lee ballooned a header over from just seven yards after a pinpoint cross from debutant Matt Bates.

Robert Earnshaw shot wide for City before the visitors went in front when Richards mis-controlled a Darren Huckerby cross and Chadwick had the simple task of side-footing beyond Mike Pollitt.

Gallacher saved well from a Simon Walton volley before Town's first good penalty shout when Gary Doherty had both arms around Lee as a cross came into the box.

Town levelled on 40 minutes when Legwinski won an excellent tackle 25 yards out and played it wide to Roberts.

He fed Billy Clarke who picked out Legwinski and the former Fulham man's touch took him away from Shackell before firing low past Gallacher.

Ipswich could have been in front by the break but Clarke scuffed a shot, then blazed over after neatly turning Doherty and then Lee and Jason De Vos got in each other's way at a Roberts corner.

Robert Earnshaw, the Championship's top scorer, wasted a great chance to put Norwich ahead on 72 minutes when an excellent Jurgen Colin cross found him seven yards out, but he headed way over.

He was made to pay on 77 minutes when Haynes, who only came on a minute earlier, got ahead of Colin to thump his header home from a Roberts cross.

Pollitt pulled off an excellent reaction block to deny Earnshaw after Shackell headed down a deep Carl Robinson cross, and De Vos cleared a teasing low Huckerby cross as Norwich sought an equaliser.

In between times, Lee had had a header cleared off the line by Colin, but in the first minute of stoppage time, Haynes sealed the win with an inch-perfect curler in off the far post after Richards had fed him.
