The former Millwall and Sheffield United winger, who completed his £750,000 move early in January, proved good value for money with a fine performance that got better and better as the game wore on.

Palace have not lost since December 21 and the Eagles boss believes it's not too late for his side to reach the play-offs.

Leon Cort started it off with a well-placed header on 33 minutes and Ifill added a second on 51 minutes to secure the three points for the South London club.

But it could have been so different for Ipswich had Alan Lee showed more composure in front of goal.

The ex-Cardiff City hit-man was guilty of a shocking miss in front of goal on five minutes when he toed his effort over the bar and, 10 minutes later, he was put clean through but allowed Gabor Kiraly too much time to stop his shot.

The Eagles were looking shaky at the start but their nerves settled on 32 minutes when Carl Fletcher released a thunderbolt from 25 yards for Lewis Price to produce a flying save.

From the resulting corner Mark Kennedy played it short to Darren Butterfield who crossed perfectly for Cort to climb above the Ipswich defence with a header wide of the keeper's outstretched left hand.

After the break Tom Soares missed a good chance when he fired over following good work from Dougie Freedman and Ifill.

Ifill in particular was proving a real handful down the right flank and it was no surprise he added Palace's second on 51 minutes.

Ipswich were attempting to clear Kennedy's corner but Shefki Kuqi managed to squeeze the ball over to Ifill who, placed 15 yards out of goal, drilled a low shot wide of Price and into the far corner.

A midfield brawl kicked off shortly after which involved the fourth official. As a result Soares and George O'Callaghan were shown yellow cards.

But Soares was in more trouble five minutes later when he went in late on Dan Harding and referee Atkinson immediately flashed a straight red.

Even with Palace down to 10 men, Ipswich failed to bother the Palace defence, although Jon Walters had a useful effort saved by Kiraly.
