Edwards: Season One Of My Worst

Chicken pox forced Edwards to miss the climax of the season, returning as an unused substitute for the 3-0 home defeat by Sheffield United on Sunday

"It was one of my worst seasons for not being in the form I should have been in," Edwards told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"I'm just hoping I can put it behind me and start next season on a positive."

Edwards moved to Ipswich from Sunderland in September 2009, and feels his first campaign for the Blues has not gone as he would have liked.

I'm just hoping I'm one of those who stays here so I can prove I'm worth being in the squad on a regular basis

He added: "Obviously there are going to be changes and it's the manager who will say who he wants to bring in and who's going to go.

"I'm just hoping I'm one of those who stays here so I can prove to him I'm worth being in the squad on a regular basis," he said.

"[Sheffield United] was my first appearance in the squad since the chicken pox - it kept me out for two and a half weeks," he said.

"At first when the spots started coming I was in denial, but time told and a couple of days after they were all over like a big rash.

"It was very difficult to get back into form."

Meanwhile, Town team-mate Tommy Smith is waiting to see whether he will make the final New Zealand World Cup squad for South Africa this summer.

Trinidad and Tobago international Edwards played three matches for his country during the 2006 competition in Germany.

"I had my time, and obviously I hoped and wished there could have been a second time in a row," he said.

"But I'm just going to be sitting in front of my telly, cheering on Tommy and just watching a few games."
