Wickham Proud at Making Town History

When Wickham came on after 66 minutes for David Norris he became the youngest ever player to appear for Town at just 16 years and 11 days, beating current record holder Jason Dozzell who was 46 days older when he made his debut over 25 years ago.

Speaking of his pride at breaking the long-standing record, Wickham told the Official Club Website: "I spoke to Jason before the game and he wished me well.

"It's a great honour for me to be the Club's youngest ever player and now I just want to stay involved and play as much as I can for the first-team. Once you get a taste of it, you want it more.

"I thought I did okay when I went on. I wasn't nervous, it was just excitement at getting on there and I had half a chance when the ball came across but I thought I was offside and the ball just got away from me.

"Some of my friends from school came along to give me support. My family were at the game as well and it was a special moment for me but obviously the result was very disappointing.

"I know I have to keep my feet on the ground but I think I am pretty level headed and I've got the right people around me to keep me that way."
