Town 2-0 Colchester United

Town took the lead after David Wright's cross from the right met the head of Colchester United defender Magnus Okuonghae who sent a bullet past his own keeper to see one of the most spectacular own goals seen since Lee Dixon's own goal for Arsenal against Town some years ago.

Shortly after coming on as a substitute with just 15 minutes remaining on the clock, Jordan Rhodes doubled Town's lead following good work by fellow young striker Connor Wickham who left Rhodes with a one on one chance against the keeper which he took full advantage of.

Town side: R.Wright, Bruce, McAuley, Balkestein (D.Wright 46), Delaney (Wilnis 78), Walters (Rhodes 75), Norris (Healy 55), Trotter (Shumulikoski 72), Garvan, Martin (Peters 53), Stead (Wickham 60). Subs not used: McLoughlin.
