24 year old academy product Richards was frozen out by former boss Jim Magilton, and his start in the 3-0 win against Cardiff at the weekend was his first game for Town in two years, during which the left back has spent time on loan at Brighton.

Speaking to the Official Club Website of his chance to in a new deal, Richards said this morning:"The new manager coming in has been given me a chance and I'm thankful for that. I did okay against Cardiff and hopefully I will get another chance to show the manager what I can do on Sunday.

"It's been a long time, two years. I have never given up though. I have come in and trained hard and just kept going.

"I've had a chance to show the new manager what I can do and it will be a case now of seeing if I am part of his plans for the future.

"There are a lot of us out of contract in the summer and the manager has obviously got a lot of thinking to do. The door might be a little bit more open for me now, who knows. I definitely want to stay if that is possible."
