Pablo: I'll do it for the fans

Counago has been under fire from Town boss Joe Royle for much of the past twelve months, and in recent times has been stuck on the bench of the first team, or out of the first team squad altogether.

However last Sunday against Sunderland Counago got a run out at last, and impressed many with a excellent display in the ten minutes he was on the field, during which he set up a crucial equaliser for Darren Bent.

Now Counago hopes that it means a return to a starting eleven for only the fourth time this season, so he can live his dream of scoring the goals to fire Town to the Premiership.

Speaking to the local press, the former Celta Vigo frontman said: "I would love to start and try and help Ipswich win these next three games.

"I don't know if I'm starting on Saturday and I'm trying not to think too much about it because you just ever know what will happen.

"The manager has not said anything yet and we try different team line-ups in training so you can't tell.

"I want to play and if I do start then it would be a nice surprise. I will do my best, enjoy playing the game and will work hard for the team and the supporters."

Counago admitted that times had been hard during the 2004/5 season with him being involved very little, but commented that the Town fanbase keeping faith in him has kept him going, and now he wants to repay the fans who stuck by him.

"It has been a difficult time for me but the fans have always been on my side and they have been brilliant to me whenever I have come on as a substitute." Pablo added.

"It is a strange situation for me to be in now but I really want to do well for those people who helped me through all this. If I can help Ipswich get promotion then that would make me feel really good."

What does the future hold of Pablo Counago is the question many blues fans will be asking, to which Counago commented that he was more interested in helping Town secure promotion than worry about his future at the moment.

"I will worry about that when it comes, at the moment the most important things are these last three games and doing the best for the team." admitted the former Under 21 international for Spain.

If Counago gets the nod on Saturday for the trip to Leeds, it's likely that striker Shefki Kuqi will drop out, after having a poor run of form since his recovery from injury.
