McCormick was jailed for seven years in October 2008 after causing the deaths of two young boys whilst driving dangerously at speeds of over 100mph after he fell asleep at the wheel under the influence of alcohol on the return from the Town midfielders wedding.

Confirming the news to the Official Club Website, a Spokesperson said: "David deeply regrets that his actions have been wrongly interpreted and has today written a personal and private letter of regret to Mr and Mrs Peak.

"In hearing the player's explanation, the Club also regrets the potential for misinterpretation of the gesture and would like to make a donation to an appropriate charity, equal to the fine imposed on the player."

Earlier it was reported that the Football Association would also like to hear from Norris regarding the celebration, and it remains to be seen what action will be taken by the Association, if any in addition to the fine and warning handed out by the club.
