Over the Christmas period the 17 year old Irish born player had an operation to correct the damage, and now faces a long road to recovery before he finally gets back to a fitness level that allows him to be involved in full training.

Town Physio Dave Williams told the official club website: "The specialists are happy with the way Gerard is recovering. The operation went fine with no complications and now it's about working his way back with a lot of physio work and a lot of patience."

"He will continue to have his progress monitored by the specialists and at the moment, it looks like he will be back in light training in July or August. It will be probably be September before he can return to full training with the first-team."
