Magilton joined Town from Sheffield Wednesday in March 1999 for £685,000 after a successful loan spell at Portman Road, and took over the Captains armband following the departure of Matt Holland to Charlton for £750,000 in the Summer of 2003.

Magilton now 35, appeared in 52 games for Town last season, and with his contract coming to an end on June 30th there were some doubts whethere he would be at Portman Road for 2004/5.

However the former Northern Irish International has admitted that he will be staying at Portman Road, and will be prepared to hand the role of Captain to younger hands if Town boss Joe Royle thought that was for the best.

Speaking of the new season Magilton commented: "I see no reason why I would not sign and as far as I'm concerned I will be back for pre-season training on Monday. As soon as we get a chance I will sit down with the gaffer and talk over some of the finer details.

"I don't know if the gaffer wants me to carry on as captain. If he does then I would happily do it as I consider it a great honour. But of he feels the team would benefit from a different type of leadership then I would readily accept that - no problem."
