A somewhat below par Town side were beat 2-0 by the home side, in front of a crowd of just over 3,000 fans welcoming Manager Roy Keane back to his hometown club.

Speaking of the game Keane told the Official Club Website: "Credit to Cork. I keep saying that's the beauty of going to Ireland. They've got some good players and it was the same at Finn Harps 10 days ago.

"The League of Ireland teams are good. It's tough, you don't get much time on the ball but from our point of view, I thought we started badly and gradually got worse.

"Some players had another opportunity to impress me and they didn't take it. I try not to over-analyse pre-seasons though. I have been involved with teams that have been flying but then it doesn't happen when the season starts and vice-versa.

"The new lads are settling in and I'm pleased with them and over the next week or two we'll have to start really nailing down team shape and certain players. I believe that in three weeks we'll be ready for the Coventry game and the big battle ahead."
