The Sunderland manager is looking to shake-up his goalkeeping options after telling BBC Newcastle he is considering an approach for David James.

That would make way for Fulop, who is keen to play first-team football, to leave the Stadium of Light.

Bruce told The Journal: "Marton Fulop is on the edge of joining Ipswich.

Why Keane needs 3/4 goalkeepers is beyond me. I think that a new striker and maybe a right back may be a more pressing priority

"They are talking personal terms as I understand it, so something should be finalised shortly as long as those talks go well."

Town boss Roy Keane had revealed last week that he was close to bringing in a handful of players to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.

Fulop has played 50 games for Sunderland but has been out of the limelight since Craig Gordon joined the club for £9m three years ago.

He featured three times for Manchester City last season as an emergency loan signing.
