Injury doubts affect Joe's line-up

In Thursday's press conference, manager Joe Royle outlined the injury worries ahead of the Stoke clash that would ultimately force his hand come Saturday and said: "I couldn't even give you a framework yet."

Alan Lee was described as the pivotal injury that will affect how the look of his side on Saturday. After recovering from a hamstring injury, Lee has been struggling over the last couple of games with a groin strain and Royle said he would give him until Saturday morning before he made a decision but Lee did not train on Thursday.

Jim Magilton missed out at Kenilworth Road with a bruised ankle and began training on Thursday, though today will guage whether there has been any reaction. Royle said his captain was 'desperate to play'.

With Ian Westlake and Gavin Williams now out for the season, Magilton would be a welcome option on the right-hand side of a possible five man midfield.

In defence Scott Barron will return at left-back after being rested for the Luton game. Barron was reported to be not happy at being left out but Royle said that a willingness to play was something that he wanted to see in his players. Jay McEveley will return to the bench after suffering some swelling around his knee after last Saturday.

If Alan Lee doesn't make tomorrows game, then Royle said he will be forced once again to play Richard Naylor up front, with Fabain slotting into central defensive duties. Against a team that Joe describes as 'the land of the giants', Joe will not play Bowditch and Haynes up front without another physical presence.

It is very possible that Darren Currie will again be given a free reign just off a loan striker, either Naylor or Lee, like he has done to good effect on several occassions this season.

Academy product Chris Casement should be given his first full debut in a right-back berth, with Sito, who was at fault for Luton's goal, dropping out. In the previous two matches Casement has been given substitute appearances and has impressed.
