Gnohere is curently training with Stockport County but wants a move back to Championship level. He interests Royle because he is as adept at playing left-back as he is centre-back. The Town boss has not kept it quiet that his main priorities lies in recruiting a left-back, to replace McEveley and a striker, to cover for Parkin.

Burnley signed Gnohere from French club Caen in 2001. The Ivory Coast born player made 92 appearances for them before a succesful loan spell to QPR in September 2003. This led to a permanent switch, which saw Gnohere make 23 appearances for the hoops but a knee injury halted his progress before he was recently thrown out of the club for breaches of discipline.

Royle is likely to give the defender a weeks trial and will hope he will be the answer to his left-back dilemma.

The Blues' boss is also desperate to add a striker to his squad over January and has already failed with bold loan moves for both former Kop hero Robbie Fowler and Tottenham's new signing Greogorz Rasiak.
