Charlton defender Hreidarsson played the full 90 minutes of his sides thrashing at the hands of the Three Lions whilst former Town midfielder Dyer came on at half time for Captain David Beckham.

Sven-Goran Eriksson gave Jamie Carragher a start at the heart of the defence in place of the injured John Terry, while Paul Robinson made his first start in goals.

The early minutes saw England have the better of the exchanges without looking like breaking the deadlock.

However Frank Lampard did so 25 minutes in as his deflected effort from 25 yards wrongfooted Arni Arason in the visitors' goal.

Just two minutes later a quick throw on the right saw Gary Neville break clear to set up Wayne Rooney to sidefoot home from ten yards out to make it 2-0.

Everton starlet Rooney added a third seven minutes before the interval, driving home a superb strike from 25 yards to again leave Arason with no chance.

Iceland pulled a goal back just before the interval as Heidar Helguson bundled the ball home following a corner, with the interval bringing a host of changes from England.

Just before the hour it was 4-1 as Darius Vassell was on hand from close range to turn Owen Hargreaves' shot into the net following a corner.

Eleven minutes later Wayne Bridge added a fifth, linking up with Nicky Butt and Emile Heskey to net his first international goal.

The scoring was complete 13 minutes from time as Heskey laid the ball off for Vassell to net from just inside the area with a curling left-foot shot.
