Dowie quits Palace

Dowie left Palace by 'mutual conscent' and citied needing to be nearer his family in the North-West as his main reason for leaving his post in London.

This was contrary to reports that he and outspoken Chairman, Simon Jordan, suffered an irrevocable bust-up.

Immediately after his departure Dowie was linked with the vacant Ipswich and Charlton jobs but the lure of Preston, should Billy Davies be appointed their new manager, would be much more suited to Dowie's family commitments.

ITFM reported early on Monday that Dowie could ask Magilton to link up with his coaching team in his next role. The two are close after their connections at international level and Dowie is actually Godfather to Magilton's son.
