Currie Heading to LA?

A move to LA first surfaced earlier in the month but was denied by the former Brighton man, however, the 32-year-old will now spend two weeks trying to win himself a place alongside David Beckham, under the management of former Town star Frank Yallop.

Boss Jim Magilton told the club site: "Darren has not played as much football as he would have liked this season and is out of contract here in the summer.

"He's been a model professional in his time at Ipswich and when the request was made for him to go out there, we couldn't stand in his way.

"It's an exciting opportunity for him and he will go out to LA for two weeks and see how he gets on and we'll take it from there."

Currie had a successful loan spell at Coventry earlier in the season and looked likely to make the switch permanent before the sacking of manager Micky Adams.

Since returning to Portman Road Currie has failed to establish himself in the first eleven, making one start and one substitute appearance.

Speaking the Club's official website Currie said he was delighted with the move: "It's an exciting opportunity for me and I'm really looking forward to it.

"This season has been a difficult one for me because for long periods I have not been playing and any footballer will tell you that it's all about being out on the pitch.

"Jim has been great to me though, and said he wouldn't stand in my way if I wanted to go over to Los Angeles and see what's going on.

"It's a two-week trial, no more than that at this stage and I will see how things develop from there. I've had a great time at Ipswich, met some fantastic people but, with my contract up in the summer, it looks like I will be moving on.

"I have always thought about the possibility of playing abroad and this is a great opportunity for me to see how football works somewhere else."
