The midfielder arrived at the club in the Summer of 2009, and originally was set to return to Sunderland this month as his loan period was due to come to an end.

However Town boss Roy Keane has since spoken to Sunderland Manager and former team-mate Steve Bruce about the chances of extending the loan which has now been rubber stamped.

Speaking to the Official Club Website, Colback confirmed: "I have really enjoyed being involved with the first-team here. I have gained so much from the experiences I've had here and feel I'm a better player for it.

"It was going to be down to the clubs if I stayed here but if the opportunity came up, that was always what I wanted to do and now I'm looking forward to helping the team enjoy a good second half of the season."
