Bowden played a leading role in guiding Town through their period in administration in the 2002/3 season, and the susbequent restructuring of the clubs debts, and also made a significent role in the sale of the club to Marcus Evans.

Confirming the news to the Official Club Website, Town owner Marcus Evans said: "I am sure all fans connected to Ipswich Town Football Club will acknowledge the tremendous contribution Derek has made during his time in the post.

"During a very difficult time for the business, he has shown outstanding loyalty and commitment and I, like all supporters and stakeholders in the Club, would like to wish him every success with the other opportunities he is leaving to pursue."

It's widely expected that Simon Clegg, previously British Olympic Association chief executive, will replace Bowden at the end of the season.
