Player of the Month -- February 2006: Darren Currie

Last updated : 13 April 2006 By Paul Whyatt

Town’s No.10 is so desperate to taste Premiership glory with Ipswich before hanging up his magical golden boots, he’s targeted victory in 9 out of Town’s last 11 games to ensure entry into this season’s Play Offs.

Ambitious to say the least, but his performances of late suggest he’s deadly serious. Some would suggest he’s plain daft, but his optimism is just what is needed if
Ipswich are to make a late surge into the top-six where anything can happen (as we all know too well).

Money is not the primary motivator in Darren Currie’s work for
Ipswich. In fact, it’s probably not even the second. At 33 years old, the former Brighton winger realizes that time is running for him to be dummying the likes of Robben and Gerrard with his electrifying twists and turns.

In February, Town came from behind three times to win 2-1 and much of that is down to players like Currie who always refuse to give up the Town cause.

That’s why Joe Royle still believes we can go up. With players like Currie, who has the ability to turn players inside out and provide deadly balls into the box, Ipswich may yet do the unthinkable and be where they should already be by now.

He may not score as many goals as Royle would like, but Currie is the key to a possible Town success that would stun all.

If not, finishing above
Norwich would be delicious! (And as for Carrow Road – well, what could one possibly say about that…?).
