Player of the Month -- December 2005: Danny Haynes

Now, however, the task remains difficult, but these days there are too few (if any) to pick from.

Take nothing away from young Danny Haynes - he's been brilliant - but when a 17-year-old kid, who played just 235 minutes out of 540 in December, is named Town's player of the month, something depressing is said about the rest of Joe Royle's team.

Only basement club Crewe have conceded more goals than our back four, whilst injuries up-front have meant scoring has become an unusal problem.

Master Haynes admits it has been these injuries that have opened the first-team gates to him, but hasn't the young lad done well?!

Fans on the terraces are touting him as the next Darren Bent, and his last-gasp equaliser at home to QPR offered hope to the thousands of loyal tractor boys and girls so saddened by the current sorry state of affairs at Portman Road.

Furthermore, in a dire match at Hillsbrough, young Danny was the spark that made sitting in the freezing south-Yorkshire cold almost worthwhile. Quite why Royle took him off at the break was as questionable as Town's away shirt / home shorts mix that day.

Royle then gave the former Charlton Athletic apprentice a well-deserved 90 minutes at home to Luton, and again he looked like a promising prospect for what can only be a brighter future for Town.

Haynes polished off his successful month by putting pen to a two-and-a-half year contract - let's hope he's here for long after that too!

And so here's to Danny Haynes - the future of ITFC? Let's see, shall we?
